Basket Brigade 2019

The 2019 Basket Brigade charity event went phenomenal and was able to donate 2,000 Thanksgiving dinners to local families which results in about 10,000 people that will be able to have an enjoyable Thanksgiving. The event took place on 11/23/2019 at Tefft Middle School in Streamwood, IL. The event started at 9 am with an introduction by the organization’s founder Brian Walsh. Brian gave some background about the Basket Brigade and how it has grown over the years and the importance of it all.  After Brian’s introduction, it was time to start packing! After grabbing a box, you would work your way through a line getting one item at a time until you had a complete Thanksgiving dinner ready to go. The contents of the baskets were: 1 Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Rolls, Macaroni and Cheese, Corn, Green Beans, Cranberries, Sweet Potatoes, Marshmallows, and a Pumpkin Pie.

After a basket is assembled, it is delivered to the loading area were they are loaded into volunteers’ cars to be delivered in person to the community. This was the 5th year that the Basket Brigade has taken place with each year having a greater impact than the last.

Leading up to the Event

Before the event started, committee member and Becker Logistics employee Robert Swiderski completed a 200-mile run to raise money and awareness for the Basket Brigade. The run took Robert through all of the communities that the Basket Brigade would be delivering Thanksgiving meals to.  From the run, Robert was able to raise an additional $3,500 which went right into providing for the communities that he ran through.

Becker Logistics Involvement

Becker Logistics was able to help out with the Basket Brigade by being one of the corporate sponsors and providing the transportation that brought in the food that would end up going out to the families.  We partnered with GTC Logistics, American Network Inc. and Umida Inc. to bring in the food the night before so that it was ready to be packaged by the volunteers.

Becker Logistics has a strong belief in community and giving back which is why we sponsor this event.  The Basket Brigade helps out families in our community on an important day of the year and we are proud to be a part of the organization.
